2023 "Duende" Pinot Noir
Gold Coast Vineyard
There’s something quietly hypnotic about Duende—a wine that doesn’t shout but seduces with its soulful, Burgundian character. Grown from own-rooted Martini clone vines planted decades ago, this site yields fruit of rare nuance. The nose draws you in with coastal chaparral of wild sage, Manzanita, and the warm spice of sandalwood. On the palate, layers of stewed strawberry, ripe plum, and Bing cherry unfurl slowly, wrapped in notes of Earl Grey and freshly turned earth. The 2023 vintage’s long, cool season brought harmony and detail, making this wine feel at once grounded and mysterious—its fine, drying tannins guiding you through a savory, thought-provoking finish. - Paul Lato
"From the Gold Coast Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley and aged 17 months in 25% new French oak, the 2023 Pinot Noir Duende Gold Coast Vineyard is a translucent ruby hue and offers mulled cherries, framboise, sassafras, and minty herbs. Beautifully balanced, layered, and polished, it has some classic marine and salty nuances, ripe tannins, and a pure, seamless mouthfeel. It's beautifully done and, I suspect, will have a decade of longevity, although there's no need to hold off. Drink 2025-2035." - 96 points, Jeb Dunnuck
